Oh hey look my semester is over.. well when did this happen? Has it really been 3 months since my last blog post?
Apparently, yes. So now it's time to give this blog my undivided attention. Also I should post about what I have learned this semester and some of the projects I worked on and some of the more interesting conversations I had. I also am planning some game analyses.
This means you will most likely see a couple of game reviews (Sanctum and Magicka for sure, perhaps some other strategy and RPG games, as I have ulterior motives to analyze these). I will most likely get a blog post on at least one of the following concepts Procedural Content Generation Under Deadlines; Game Genres and What They Really Mean; Process and Post-Mortem: Game Design Review (ie what I learned in my game design class). I will probably also do something a little bit more personal regarding me as a designer and some of my design style (basically I take notes on everything and I like systems). Somehow I wrote a post about 'generic videogame whores'(normally I would need to explain my use of crude language but I think you know what I'm talking about already).
I also should put together that play-testing form too... so many things to get done! well at any rate you should start to see some of these analyses come up on either a weekly or bi-weekly (starting next week).

Business card game update!
Sorry for the time between updates however DigiPen has started and lots of unknowns have cropped up in the last minutes. I remember when DigiPen started out ‘slow’. Anyway I have some very interesting news regarding my time at PAX. I saw many panels and I hope to put some updates to by blog regarding them (some panels had more design info than others; so I’m not sure how I will structure things). however future posts aside lets talk about the business card game.
Simply put; the Business cards I received broke Every assumption I had. I assumed I would be getting multiple business cards from people in the same area and from similar professions and have few Domain Names for email. NONE of these assumptions were true. Everyone had a custom domain, only people from the same business had the same area-code (I should’ve used state), and job conventions varied wildly.
Almost none of my cards had anything in common thus my mechanics which favored unique business cards to similar cards would’ve broken down quickly. I think It would be better to flip the paradigm I had and focus on collecting similar cards.
I’m definitely going to revise the game from it’s previous version; and now that I have a sample of business cards I can get a much better idea of where things are coming from. I’m already thinking of some mechanics. One is a straight meta game about collecting and is really just a way to score your pile of business cards. I’m thinking I might want to get that to morph into more of a game of sorts.
Also a shout out to anyone who gave me a business card; I’m going to give you a personalized email soon. I just want to make sure I ask questions and talk about what you think is important. If you are going to take time to read an email I should take the time to write it (regardless of if I have that time or not).
